Save the Lebanese Civilians Petition

Please go to http://julywar.epetition.net and sign the Save the Lebanese Civilians Petition and forward this invitation to your friends.

Lebanese civilians have been under the constant attack of the state of Israel for several days. The State of Israel, in disregard to international law and the Geneva Convention, is launching a maritime and air siege targeting the entire population of the country. Innocent civilians are being collectively punished in Lebanon by the state of Israel in deliberate acts of terrorism as described in Article 33 of the Geneva Convention.

Madiha!!

I'm all for criticizing excessive violence and bloodshed, but how biased is this petition!?

"The savagery of the Israeli state?"
(For defending itself? From from missle attacks and guerilla infiltration and kidnappings through secret tunnels by a non-state unaccountable terrorist entity that wants to annihilate them? Wouldn't Hezbollah be more akin to this "savagery?")

"Israel does not seem to be capable of approaching any problem outside the realm of the military power"

They are being bombed by an unaccountable terrorist group that wants the whole country annihilated! What other means are there, negotiation?

ISRAEL: "Hey, what do you guys, Hezbollah, need in exchange for an end to this violence?"

HEZBOLLAH: "Oh, well all of you need to die and your whole country has to perish. Let us know when you can get around to that."

What's going on right now is awful. But this is not a group like Hamas / Palestinians, who have been denied their right to self-determination (namely, land and government). That's a military front by Israel that seems to make less sense. But with Hezbollah, Israel was not occupying Lebanese land, but they launched a pre-emptive attack.

Israel dropped leaflets telling people they're sorry they have to cause this destruction, but it's necessary to get rid of this terrorist threat, so please get out of the way. And they recently allowed airlifts of humanitarian aid. So I don't think it's fair to call them "savages" or a "war machine!"

I think it's good to keep an eye on the conflict and be ready to point out any excessive violence. But even tough the current conflict is bad in the short-term, isn't it better in the long-term if they get rid of the threat completely and then bring in a neutral peacekeeping force? This will make sure the threat of violence in the future is completely eliminated so the two countries can live side by side in peace.

I don't know, those are my two cents.

P.S. -- how's Cali life and when are you coming back to NYC for 2nd year of law school?
